Bijzonder, zo kan je de derde etappe van de Ster van Bessèges wel noemen. Na een nieuw incident met een auto op het parcours besloten er heel wat ploegen om uit de wedstrijd te stappen. Onder meer INEOS Grenadiers, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Soudal Quick-Step en Unibet Tietema Rockets maakten die keuze. “De veiligheid van onze renners is het allerbelangrijkste”, klonk het eensgezind.

De renners van Soudal Quick-Step, EF Education-EasyPost, INEOS Grenadiers, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Uno-X Mobility, Lidl-Trek en Unibet Tietema Rockets besloten om naar hun teambussen te rijden en uit de wedstrijd te stappen. “Na een nieuw incident hebben onze renners besloten om niet door te gaan in deze koers. De veiligheid van onze renners primeert altijd. We vinden dat er niet genoeg is gedaan”, geeft Lidl-Trek mee op sociale media.

Bij Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe lezen we een gelijkaardige reactie. “Door de aanhoudende onveilige omstandigheden, zeker met de auto’s op het parcours, besloten we met het hele team besloten om uit de koers te stappen. De veiligheid van onze renners en staf is onze eerste prioriteit.”

#EDB25 Following another incident early in today’s stage involving a vehicle, our riders have decided not to continue and have retired from the stage. The safety of our riders is paramount and we felt not enough was being done.
