Stage 21 Madrid - Madrid (24.6km)

ASO hopes that the Vuelta in 2024 will conclude with a thrilling finale in Madrid. After years of stage wins for sprinters, this year's Vuelta will finish with a 22-kilometer time trial through the Spanish capital. Riders who are not careful could lose minutes here.

The time trial itself is not spectacular in terms of elevation. In central Madrid, it is mostly flat. The course is also not particularly technical, as it mostly heads south towards the city center.

The time trial starts at the headquarters of the Spanish telecom provider Telefónica, from where the riders will enter the old city center via the M-612. After about twelve kilometers, the riders will pass through the neighborhood of Tétuan and will ride close to the Santiago Bernabéu football stadium.

Four kilometers from the finish, the riders will encounter true Madrid landmarks, first passing the beautiful Cibeles Fountain and then the green boulevard of Paseo del Prado. At the botanical gardens, two kilometers from the finish, the riders will make a 360-degree turn back to the Paseo del Prado and the Cibeles Fountain, with the finish line on Gran Vía. This is where the Vuelta celebration will erupt.

In recent years, winners in the capital have included Kaden Groves, Sebastián Molano, Pascal Ackermann, Fabio Jakobsen, Elia Viviani, and Matteo Trentin. A new name is likely to join this list.
