Stage 19 Gap - L'Alpe-d'Huez (128.0km)

The final weekend of the Tour de France promises to be spectacular, featuring no less than two stages over Alpe d’Huez. On Friday, Alpe d’Huez is climbed for the first time in this edition.

The start, as has often been the case in Tour history, is in Gap. From Gap, the riders face a 128-kilometer stage with a total of four climbs. The first comes immediately after the start: the Col de Bayard (5.1 kilometers at 7.2%). Directly after the descent, the Col du Noyer (7.2 kilometers at 8.5%) follows.

The peloton will already be considerably thinned out after this tough opening phase—only 25 kilometers have been covered! After these two climbs, there is a long period of relative calm. Only 75 kilometers later does climbing resume with the Col d’Ornon (5.4 kilometers at 6.4%), signaling the approach to the finale.

After a 13-kilometer descent, the riders arrive in Bourg d’Oisans. From there, you know what’s coming: Alpe d’Huez (13.8 kilometers at 8.1%) begins!

Through 21 hairpin bends, the riders wind their way to the top of the ‘Dutch Mountain.’ Interestingly, no male Dutch rider has won here for quite some time. Demi Vollering did in 2024, but the last Dutch male winner on Alpe d’Huez was Gert-Jan Theunisse in 1989.
