After the Jura, the Tour riders head quickly to the Alps, where the big showdown of the Tour de France is set to take place. On the Tuesday following the second rest day, a 26-kilometer time trial awaits at Lake Geneva, specifically in Thonon-les-Bains.

The time trial takes the riders along the lake from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains and includes approximately 500 meters of elevation gain. This is due to a hill immediately after the start: a climb 9.6 kilometers long with an average gradient of 4.2 percent. After seven kilometers, the course descends back down to the lake.

From the lake, nine kilometers remain to the finish in Thonon-les-Bains. This time trial could once again shake up the general classification significantly.
