Stage 10 Aurillac - Le Lioran (167.0km)

The French are treated to an attractive stage on their own national holiday. At least… that is the expectation. The last time the Tour de France finished in Le Lioran, Jonas Vingegaard beat Tadej Pogačar after a thrilling stage.

In this tenth stage, the peloton travels 167 kilometers through the Massif Central. The riders start in the afternoon in Aurillac, followed by a flat opening phase. Only in the final eighty kilometers does the vast majority of the 3,900 meters of climbing appear.

After nearly 100 kilometers, the riders reach the top of the first official climb of the day: the Col de la Griffoul (5.9 kilometers at 6.7%). From here on, the stage contains no flat sections at all. There are the ascents of the Col de Prat de Bouc and the Côte de Murat, but no mountain points are awarded at their summits.

After nearly 100 kilometers, the riders crest the first official climb, the Col de la Griffoul—5.9 kilometers at 6.7%. Soon after comes the Col de Prat de Bouc (3.2 kilometers at 5.8%), and directly from the descent, the Côte de Murat (6.6 kilometers at 4.4%). Strictly speaking, these are nothing more than preliminary skirmishes.

The race truly ignites on the Puy Mary (7.8 kilometers at 6%), which ramps up to 9 percent in its final kilometers, with the last 2.2 kilometers averaging 8.8%. After a short descent comes the brutal Col de Pertus (4.4 kilometers at 8.5%).

At that point, only 14 kilometers remain. In the absolute final phase, the Col de Font de Cère still awaits. The final forty kilometers of this stage are identical to the Tour stage of 2023, which was won by Vingegaard.
