Stage 1 Barcelona - Barcelona (19.7km)

The Grand Départ of the Tour de France will take place in 2026 in Barcelona. After San Sebastian in 1992 and Bilbao in 2023, this will be only the third time that Spain hosts a Grand Départ. This year, the Tour will remain in Catalonia for three days before heading over the Pyrenees to France.

During the start of the Tour, ASO is introducing something new. As has happened several times throughout history, the race will begin with a team time trial. But this time, it is not the time of the fifth finisher that counts—the time will be recorded individually for each rider. This makes the 19-kilometer time trial through Barcelona immediately interesting.

The team time trial starts at Parc del Forum on the northern side of Barcelona along the coastline. From there, the teams will accelerate toward Port Olímpic, then make a turnaround on the straight roads back to the Forum, before heading towards Carrer d’Aragó to enter the ‘real’ city center, passing landmarks such as the Sagrada Familia and Parc Joan Miró.

In the final phase, the route becomes hectic and challenging as the riders climb Montjuïc from Plaza de España (1.1 kilometers at 5.1%). Once at the top, a final stretch of 800 meters at an average gradient of around 7 percent awaits.
